making a move

as at least two of you know my blog is in the process of moving to a new home.

blogger left me shut down for a month and my fan club was wondering why the hell i wasn't posting anything.

he didn't understand blogger's obfuscated message about time zone problems in caracas either.

so, as i never did much for blogger i doubt that i'll be missed (nor do i care).

bye,y'all.

changes

i've
been doing a lot of reminiscing lately about the early years of jungle's diving career in utila.

remembering the great times with great people (not you). helping to run a busy dive school in the caribbean. and the more i think about it the more i realize it was because of the staff we had more than anything else.

good, solid, honest, honorable people.

add to that cold beers and world class sunsets and you've got an unbeatable formula for success.

i ran across this on the internet the other day and was reminded of a couple of these people.
pete and ruth faulkner were a couple of these people. they've set up shop in oz these days and
i'm sure they're doing well.

i can't think of a reason they wouldn't.

they're good eggs.

changes and amazement

there have been a lot of changes on this little island over the past six months.

and it never fails to amaze me how strongly people feel about holding on to and even expanding "their" piece of the pie when this happens. especially when these people had absolutely nothing to do with making the pie in the first place.

of course the feeling of "ownership" seems to be directly proportional to the amount of damage they, personally, have inflicted upon the business during their sojourn.

all they see is the possibility that their little party might be coming to an end.

and it scares them to think that they might have to go home and start growing up.

on their own dime.

early morning/late night

i left my room at 4:30 this morning and was greeted by orion dominating a clear night sky.

a promise of sunshine and good diving today.

on my way to the chamber i passed by one of the local pharmaceutical reps on his way home.

"good morning!" "g'nite, dawg."

it reminded me of the old wily coyote/sheep dog shift change scene.

it's a totally different little island during the late night/early morning shift.

i love this place.

as the day moves on into the american holiday of thanksgiving the thought keeps popping into my head that this is a celebration commemorating the rescue of a bunch of inept campers by an indigenous people who were subsequently repaid with smallpox, syphilis, and red-eye whiskey.

and so, in the spirit of the day, from my people to yours, "thanks for the whiskey."

melancholy baby

i've been hearing an old familiar tune the last few weeks.

it's a sad song...all about lost love and broken dreams...sweet lies and burning bridges.

a haunting melody full of slow, sad blues riffs and a voice that could pull the soul of a politician right out of the devil's hand.

but you know what?

i'm gonna write a new song.

i'm gonna learn a new dance.

and i pity those poor fools who can't keep up.

rock on, baby, rock on.

"she had a body like a melon and a face like a collie..."

i feel like dancing.

a new tool

for those of you who come here on a regular basis (gene) you might have noticed that there's a new thingy in my sidebar.

it's designed to bring more (as in lot's more) traffic to your blog.

it's destined to take over the blogosphere.

it's virtually viral; plethoric in scope; it bloggles the mind.

get on board now or be left in a cloud of electronic detritus.

it's blogrush.

go on and get ya some.
